At this one day course we teach you how to make completely natural bar soaps from a variety of botanical oils including olive oil, coconut oil shea butter and essential oils. We use the traditional cold process method which, as a bi-product creates natural glycerine to moisturise and care for your skin.
Working in small groups with Melinda and her expert tutors you will make two complete batches of soap from scratch, fragrance them with pure essential oils and decorate them with flowers and herbs. You will also learn several colour swirling techniques and we will provide software that will enable you to formulate your own recipes.
Melinda will talk you through the basic chemistry of soap making and by the end of the day you will be ready to make your own soaps at home using utensils you probably already have in your kitchen.
There is a shop at the course where you can buy basic ingredients and we provide you with a light, meat free lunch. You will go home with comprehensive notes, a selection of soaps made on the day and hopefully with some great new friends.
Creams, Lotions & Balms
At this course you will learn how to make a heavy and a light cream, a lotion and a balm, using botanical oils, butters, waxes and essential flower oils and waters so you will be able to make perfect skincare products that suit your skin for a fraction of the price of those you buy in the stores.
We also talk you through the science, myths and marketing relating to creams and lotions and we will discuss the properties of the ingredients and what they bring to your skin. We will also teach you how to formulate your own products at home.
We provide you with a light, meat free lunch and there is a shop at the course where you can buy basic supplies. You will go home with a very comprehensive set of notes and a selection of products you have made on the day.
Liquid Soap making Course
At our liquid soap making course you will make a batch of hot processed liquid soap from coconut, olive and sunflower oil. You will learn how to formulate, fragrance, colour and thicken your soap and you will see how the oils magically transform their consistency until they reach the clear gel phase. You will then learn how to dilute your soap.
We supply a light, meat free lunch and comprehensive course notes. There will be a shop at the course where you can buy basic supplies and you will go home with a tub of soap gel which you can dilute at home.

In just 18 months I took natural soaps, made in my kitchen in rural Wales, into every major supermarket chain in the UK. I also sold my soaps to Harrods, House of Fraser and numerous high end hotels and gift shops throughout the world. There are currently 21 products that I created for clients on sale in Fortnum and Mason, Harrods and Waitrose. I understand the challenges ahead of you because I have lived them, breathed them and survived to tell the tale. I am the author of 3 internationally published, best selling books on soap and natural cosmetic making (and 27 books on other craft subjects). Named by The Sunday Times as 'The Delia Smith of Soap making' I am credited with introducing the modern craft of natural soap making into Europe. The one thing I have learnt on my journey is that an investment in expertise is the most cost effective investment you can make.
